CITY bounced back from a disappointing home defeat to Sheffield United last Saturday by comfortably beating a poor Peterborough United side at Ashton Gate on Tuesday evening.

The result gives City a seven-point advantage over third-placed Swindon Town and a five-point cushion over Milton Keynes in second place, whom City retain a game in hand over.

There couldn’t have been a starker difference between the quality of The Blades and The Posh. On Saturday, The Blades looked a slick outfit and the visitors’ passing and movement was a level above City.

As soon as they were knocked out of the FA Cup a couple of weeks ago, I thought Sheffield United would come on strong, and so it is proving as they have won three on the bounce.

They strengthened well in January and have a favourable remaining set of fixtures that could yet see them seriously challenge for an automatic promotion spot.

On Tuesday, City got off to a perfect start after just eight minutes when Flint finished from close range following a Pack corner, for his fifth goal of the campaign.

City were never really troubled by The Posh and two minutes into the second half, Agard nodded in after Bryan’s shot parried off the bar to make it 2-0 and put the result beyond doubt.

What has impressed me about this City team all season is its ‘bounceback-ability’. Every time we have had a setback, a win closely follows.

City are on the road in the coming week, travelling to Colchester United this Saturday (3pm) and then to Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday (7.45pm).

I’m hoping we can beat Colchester, who have an abysmal home record, and take a point at Doncaster who are in good form having won their last three.

With 16 games left for City, I reckon eight wins and a few draws will be enough to see us go up automatically. Nine or ten wins, which I think is achievable, would see us crowned champions which is what every City fan would love to see!
