Located in the Shropshire hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB) near the village of Llanfair Waterdine, a small village located near Knighton, (Tref y Clawdd) located in the Welsh Marches. A traditional market town within the historic county boundary of Radnorshire, lying on the river Teme, with a railway station on the Heart of Wales line. The Offas Dyke footpath is a 177 mile National Trail footpath that closely follows the England/Wales border. It opened in 1971 from Prestatyn to Chepstow with Knighton sitting at the half way point with a visitors centre.

Knighton has a primary school, supermarket, leisure centre and many other smaller independent shops. The larger market town of Ludlow, 18 miles has a wider variety of facilities and hosts the famous Ludlow Food Festival. The larger Spa town of Llandrindod Wells, 18 miles offers a further wider range of facilities.

From Knighton take the B4355, signposted Newtown, Beguildy, Knucklas. Continue along this road for approx. 4 miles. When you reach Lloyney , take the first right hand turn signposted Llanfairwaterdine/Black Hall Lodges. Follow the brown tourist signs for Black Hall Lodges on reaching the park, please take the drive directed to Black Hall Farm. Follow the drive, pass through the farm yard, and pass over a cattle grid. Follow this track and pass over a second cattle grid and the cottage comes into view on your left and the access shortly after.
