Only 88,300 people were in arrears with their mortgage in the third quarter of 2017, the lowest rate since records started in 1994.
The figures from UK Finance show that 1,900 properties were taken back by the lender - well below the 12,000 repossessed in 2000.
UK Finance attributes the low figures to low interest rates and high levels of employment in the UK.
