ON Sunday, December 7, the English String Orchestra will be giving a not-to-be-missed concert in the wonderful setting of Berkeley Castle.
The event will begin at 5pm with wine and mince pies in the Long Drawing Room followed at 6pm by the concert in the magnificent Great Hall. The atmosphere of the Castle is particularly magical in the Festive Season with its crackling log fire and large Christmas tree adding a special seasonal warmth to this jewel of a building which has been home to the Berkeley family for over 900 years.
Joined by a guest oboist, the string orchestra will play a mixed programme of works from the baroque period including the Boyce Symphony No 1, Marcello’s Oboe Concerto, Vivaldi’s Double Violin Concerto in A minor and J S Bach’s Violin and Oboe concerto, short pieces by Grieg and Brahms and the popular ‘Gabriel’s Oboe by Morricone’.
Tickets are £39.50 (including wine and mince pies at the reception and in the interval) and can be purchased by telephoning 01905 570979. Visit www.orpheus-events.com for further details.
