The Great British Bake Off star Selasi Gbormittah has admitted his mother does not believe he has become a heartthrob following his appearance on the show.
The baking contestant won legions of fans for his relaxed approach in the famous white tent and his cheeky sense of humour.
Appearing on ITV’s This Morning, he dodged a question about how his girlfriend Joelle Rainford felt about his heartthrob status, instead saying: “My mum couldn’t believe that!”
Selasi, who was eliminated in the semi-final, was quick to praise the series’ eventual winner Candice Brown.
He said: “She was a deserving winner, she has always gone above and beyond and was always pushing the limits and giving herself too much to do, which worked for her. She absolutely killed it.”
The baker arrived at the studio on his Kawasaki Ninja motorbike on his way to his job in banking.
On the night of the final, he hosted his fellow contestants and their friends and family for a viewing party, sharing pictures on Twitter of stacks of pizzas and bottles of champagne.
He said: “We had a great time, all the bakers came round and we drank a lot and ate a lot, it was amazing.”
During his appearance on This Morning, Selasi knocked up a chocolate and cherry cake for hosts Rylan and Daniel Clark-Neal, even sieving the flour – something he said he never does – because “Mary (Berry) might be watching”.
