THE new summer youth group Barn Youth Theatre are bringing two shows to Cirencester this August.
Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater's rock musical Spring Awakening and the fun packed Seussical Jr. the musical, from Tony-winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty.
Set in late 19th-century Germany, Spring Awakening is an electric, vibrant celebration of youth and rebellion, fusing issues of morality, sexuality, and rock and roll into a story that packs a powerful emotional punch.
The production will be directed by StageSmart's Benn Williams. Rob Rayner, who has worked on professional shows including The Liion King and Wicked UK tour, will take over as musical director.
Seussical Jr. takes audiences on an adventure from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos.
Horton must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.
For this show, BYT are working with director Dan Williams, director of successful children's theatre company Mini Players based in Wales.
- Spring Awakening and Seussical Jr. will be performed at The Barn Theatre, Cirencester. Spring Awakening will run from Wednesday, August-16-Saturday, August 19 at 7.30pm, followed by Seussical Jr on Friday, August 25 at 7pm and Saturday, August 26 at 4pm.
