THE GAZETTE'S Thornbury reporter will take a leap of faith as she abseils down St Mary's Church mammoth tower next week.

Marion Sauvebois will step off the edge of the 130ft bell tower on Saturday, March 16 at 11am to mark Hammer Out's milestone tenth anniversary- and raise funds for brain tumour patients and their families in the process.

She will not be the only frightened soul shaking in her climbing boots on the day as scores of locals are due to tackle the challenge for the Thornbury-based charity.

Thornbury vicar Rev van der Lely will also jump off the tower in a bid to collect £5,000 towards an equally worthy cause--the reordering of St Mary's Church..

"Although I am not technically afraid of heights, jumping off a 130ft tower is a daunting experience," Marion said. "I hope I don’t start screaming as I go over the edge and let go."

She added: "It should be really fun if I manage to relax and enjoy myself. "I am delighted to be helping Hammer Out on their anniversary year. Even if I am terrified all the way down it will all have been worth it when I hand the charity all the sponsorship money my friends and colleagues have generously pledge to donate- if I make it alive."
