A CHARITY fundraising trio once again called upon famous friends to help them raise money at a golf day held at Filton Golf Club.

They were joined by four famous friends to raise money for the Willow Foundation, a charity which funds special days for seriously ill people between the ages of 16 and 40.

Roger Riggs, from Almondsbury and David Timmins, from Coombe, near Wotton-under-Edge who have been business partners for 40 years were joined by John Skinner and have been fundraising for the charity since 2005.

They were joined by former Arsenal and Scotland goalkeeper, Bob Wilson, who they met 10 years ago when Roger promised to raise £50,000 for the charity.

A decade on and the trio, with the help of Bob Wilson, have raised far more, having gone over the £800,000 mark following their latest golf day.

They were joined by former Arsenal and Bristol Rovers forward Bobby Gould, Peter Aitken who has captained both Bristol Rovers and Bristol City and Coronation Street Star Johnny Briggs.

With 19 teams entered in to the golf day, £30,000 was raised for the Willow Foundation and a further £500 was given to the Southmead Project, who tackle drug and alcohol misuse.

Roger Riggs said: “We started our fundraising with a golf day at Filton Golf Club so it seemed a fitting way to end it, back where we started.

“We’ve really enjoyed holding these events. We’ve had lots of fun and met lots of nice people.

“We’ve had great support from everyone, from family members to friends and people who have taken part in our fundraisers. We’ve been very lucky with the support we’ve had.”

Despite not having any future plans for fundraising events Roger said that it would be nice to hit the £1,000,000 mark:

“For now we haven’t got any events planned but maybe 2 or 3 years down the line we’ll arrange something, organising these events is hard work so a few years break would be nice.”
