A COMMEMORATION event in remembrance of the First World War held in Slimbridge has been described as a “huge Success”.
Slimbridge Village Hall was filled with people from around the area who watched children from Slimbridge School, who performed a tribute to soldiers named on the village’s memorial.
The event was put together as part of a project initiated by Slimbridge Parish Council.
On the evening copies of “Slimbridge Remembers”, a book containing the history of the 23 soldiers listed on the memorial, were available for collection for each household in the parish. This had been researched over many months by Slimbridge Local History Society.
An information board for each soldier is being made up which will circulate around the parish over the coming years.
The event and publications were made possible due to funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Slimbridge Parish Council.
If anyone has any further information on any of the soldiers of Slimbridge please contact Slimbridge Local History Society via their website at www.slimbridgelhs.plus.com.
