WINTERBOURNE has produced its very own starlet who is "chuffed to bits" after landing a role in the stage production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the Bristol Hippodrome.

Ten-year-old Levanna McClean, who attends Elm Park primary school, will play the part of one of the sewer children in the musical, which opens on March 9.

Her mum, Eve Arslett, said: "I knew she had a chance but it was an open audition and we waited for four hours and were one of the last to get in. "It was tough but after four rounds she came out with a piece of paper saying she had got through.

"She is very humble and doesn't realise how clever she is but we are chuffed to bits."

This is the third production that Levanna has been involved in having previously played parts in Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the Bristol Hippodrome and a part in Annie, at the Weston Theatre Playhouse.

She has attended the Bristol School for performing arts on Saturdays for four years.

Levanna will be joined on stage by Gary Wilmot who will play Caractacus Potts, Gregor Fisher as Grandpa Potts best known for his role as Rab C Nesbitt, with the evil child-catcher being played by Kevin Kennedy, famous for his part in Coronation Street as Curly Watts.

The well-loved musical will feature all the famous songs and tells the story of the Potts family and how they try and outwit the dastardly baron and the evil child catcher with a little help from their four fendered friend, Chitty.
