THORNBURY has, once again, been named one of the best places to live in the UK.

The town has been included in the top 50 Best Towns and Suburbs to Live by The Sunday Times.

It is one of only six towns in the South West on this year’s list and the only one in Gloucestershire.

The accolade comes in part three of The Sunday Times Best Places to Live guide, which is published on Sunday, March 15.

The annual supplements combine data and statistics such as crime rates, house prices and school performance with the local knowledge and expertise of Sunday Times writers to compile the list.

The Sunday Times Best Towns and Suburbs to Live is the third in a four part series in partnership with Zoopla.

Parts one and two focused on rural idylls and the coolest city locations, while part three is published with The Sunday Times on Sunday, March 15 and looks at the most attractive towns and suburbs which offer the best of both worlds.

The locations were selected for offering the best quality of life to the widest number of people, and combining desirable features such as a positive community spirit, good local shops and services and attractive outdoor spaces.

Commenting on supplement, home editor Helen Davies said: "The UK is home to some fantastic cities and idyllic countryside, and most of us want easy access to both urban excitement, and rural tranquillity.”
