POLICE sergeants, cadets and residents joined forces during a big spring clean in Abbotswood.
A dozen police cadets together with PC Angharad Baynham, Yate neighbourhood beat manager and Sergeant Andy Hucker joined around thirty local residents for the spring clean in the Abbotswood Shopping Precinct on Saturday, April 18.
The group carried out numerous tasks to improve the area, including gulley and weed clearing, litter picking, painting garage doors and benches and putting up flower baskets outside participating shops.
Organised by Caroline Jacques of Jacob’s Well group, and joined by members of the Abbotswood Action Group (AAG), the spring clean achieved a massive amount and children’s activities were also provided throughout the day.
Chairman of the AAG, Mary Wright, said: “The weather this time was on our side as it was a gloriously sunny day and everyone worked extremely hard to carry out everything we had intended to achieve, from the people providing much appreciated refreshments to those doing the heavier work.
“AAG is very grateful to all those who helped in any way, and for the equipment provided by South Gloucestershire Council.
"We hope to take forward all this enhancement of the area together with Yate Town Council which is in the process of purchasing the area.”
