A YATE woman who braved the shave for charity and twice best her fundraising targets has raised hundreds of pounds for a cancer charity.

Jenny Scott, 31, shaved her red locks last weekend, raising more than £750 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

“It was a little nerve-wracking, but I just wanted to get on with it once I was there,” she told the Gazette afterwards.

“It means a huge amount to me all the support I’ve had and I want to thank everyone who’s been so incredibly generous in their support.”

Her only previous experience of fundraising was running the Race for Life in aid of Cancer Research UK and wanted to continue her efforts.

Jenny, who works in administration for a surveying company in Chipping Sodbury, chose a cancer charity because her grandmother Anthea Scott died of the disease.

She saw an advert on Facebook suggesting a head shave as a potential fundraising method and decided to go with it.

“My mum lost her mum to breast cancer a few months before she got pregnant with my brother,” she said before braving the shave.

“It had quite a profound effect on her being a mother without her own mother around.

“Everyone knows someone affected by cancer and I have seen the work Macmillan does. They support people so well at the worst times of their lives.”

She had initially set a target of £200 but that was passed well before the shave as a result, a subsequent target of £500 was set which has also been comfortably surpassed.

“The response has been fantastic,” added Jenny. “Everyone has been so kind and I’m glad so much has been raised for such a good cause.”

Her head was shaved at Reflections in Yate Shopping Centre on Saturday, August 8. To sponsor Jenny visit https://bravetheshave.org.uk/shavers/jenny-scott/
