THORNBURY Carnival is set for a big sound boost this year with a new PA system, thanks to a £3,200 grant.

The equipment, funded by Oldbury Power Station operator Magnox North and sourced through Bristol-based KJE Technical, will be used to improve the sound quality for the crowds that watch the carnival parade in Thornbury on July 2, at both The Plain and in the High Street.

As well as being used for the carnival each year, the equipment will be made available for use by organisers of other community events, including the Oldbury Fun Run, the Thornbury Lions fireworks display, and the Thornbury Christmas Lights.

Carnival chairman Barry Williams said: “"We are very pleased and grateful to Magnox for the grant which will assist the carnival in improving the sound quality and range of our public announcements during the High Street Parade.

“It will also improve our ability to inform our visitors to the carnival field of the many varied events and attractions that are on display.

“In addition this equipment will also be made available for use by the organisers of other local community events such as Thornbury Christmas Lights, Oldbury Fun Run and the annual firework display.”
