A NINE-year-old girl from Chipping Sodbury will be having her locks chopped off on Thursday, July 14 in aid of CLIC Sargent.

Emalie Randell has been growing her hair since she was a toddler but has been asking to use her long locks to raise money for charity for some time.

Emalie, a pupil at Horton Primary School, will have 20 inches of her hair cut at Tesco Extra in Yate on Thursday (7pm) and hopes to raise £1,000 in the process. The youngster, who will donate her hair to the Little Princess Trust which makes wigs for children with cancer, has already received £599 of donations online.

Her mum Louise said: “I am so proud of her.

“Emalie had quite a traumatic accident last year when she fell out of a tree and fractured her skull and she was really touched by the attention she got and how well she was looked after.

“I am going through a divorce at the moment and although she is experiencing all these emotions she still thinks of other people. That makes me incredibly proud.”

Emalie’s hair is long enough for her to sit on but she is having it cut into a bob.

“I have been putting it off for ages as she is young and I didn’t want her to regret it,” added Louise. “But she kept nagging and we saw a collection for CLIC Sargent in Yate and she realised it was a children’s charity and wanted to raise money for them.

“We aim to raise £1,000 and I am really pushing that. We will be collecting money on the night and are going round our neighbourhood on Wednesday evening and will continue to accept donations online afterwards.”
