THE Conservative district councillor for Winterbourne has been announced as the party’s candidate for the new West of England combined authority mayor.
Tim Bowles will go before the public vote on May 4 to become the new mayor for the region, working with the Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol and South Gloucestershire councils on issues including the region’s transport, housing, skills training and business support.
He said: “The devolution deal is an opportunity to harness real power and create growth in the West of England.
“I want to bring together my experiences in politics and business to serve the region so that we build an economy that works for everyone.
“If elected, I will work with our MPs, government, local political and business leaders to negotiate new opportunities and deliver positive change for our region.”
Tim was elected as South Gloucestershire Councillor for the Winterbourne ward in 2010 and 2015.
He is a member of the senior leadership team of the controlling Conservative group.
