THREE sisters from Olveston have danced their way to success by achieving top grades in their recent dance exams.

Laura Evans, 11, Sophie Evans, 9, and Matilda Evans, 7, were awarded the highest mark possible after performing a 45-minute modern dance syllabus in front of examiners from the The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) - a world leading examination board.

Eldest of the three Laura achieved a distinction for the Grade 3 Modern Dance qualification, while Sophie and Matilda matched her result for the Grade 2 and 1 exam, respectively.

It’s a massive success for the three of the sisters, who take classes in modern, tap and ballet every week at the Sharon Phillips School of Dancing, which has branches in both Alveston and Patchway.

The school’s owner, Sharon Phillips, said that she was incredibly proud of the girls and their recent exams results.

She said: “It’s a massive success for the girls, who have been practicing the syllabus for several months.”

“To have three sisters from the same family achieve the top result is a unique situation for the dance school as it has never happened before.”

She added: “We had 90 students taking exams and everyone worked incredibly hard."

Mother of the three girls, Melinda Evans, said: "We're proud of all three girls and very grateful to their dance teachers, for inspiring them to perform to their best ability."

In recognition of her success, 11-year-old Laura will be taking her dance shoes to London this September to represent the Sharon Phillip’s School.

Alongside 40 other students from the school, Laura will perform in the ‘Young Performers West End Gala’, to be held at Her Majesty’s Theatre in the city of Westminster.

In preparation for the show, which gives young dancers from all over the country a chance to perform on a West End stage, Laura will be practicing dance for over two and a half hours a week.

All of the dance students at the Sharon Phillips School of Dancing take part in the school’s own show, which happens every two years at the Olympus Theatre in Stoke Gifford. The next show is scheduled to run in March 2018.

The school offers classes in ISTD Tap, Modern and Ballet for adults and children over the age of 18-months. They have recently announced a new boys-only ballet class for those in school years 2-5.
