STROUD District Council leader Steve Lydon shares his upcoming events.

Friday, March 31 – Active For Life health & wellbeing day

As part of the council’s commitment to health and wellbeing, we have arranged a morning of activities for residents aged 50 and over.

There will be free taster sessions of a number of exercise classes specially designed for older people, gentle walking and running groups in Stratford Park grounds plus a range of `walking’ sports including football, netball and rugby.

The hair & beauty students from Stroud College will be providing a pop up pamper session, and you can have a free swim on the day too.

Active For Life will take place at Stratford Park on Friday, March 31, between 10am – 1.30pm.

As the numbers are limited you’ll need to register if you want to take part, either on the council’s website stroud.gov.uk/activeforlife or by phoning 01453 754177.

If you’re on social media you can follow the event on Facebook activeforlifestroud and Twitter @activestroud.

Thursday, May 4 – Gloucestershire County Council elections

The county council elections will take place on Thursday, May 4.

You’ll be able to see who is standing for election from Tuesday, April 4 on the county council’s website gloucestershire.gov.uk

During the run up to the elections, councils and councillors have to observe strict publicity guidelines, so I will have to put this diary on hold until then.

In the meantime, if you want to vote in these or any future elections then you must be on the electoral register.

It’s worth knowing that not being on the electoral register could affect your credit rating.

It’s easy to register, and worth doing in plenty of time rather than leaving it until the last minute.

The quickest way to register is online at stroud.gov.uk/vote or by calling 01453 754886.

You’ll need to provide your date of birth and national insurance number.

The deadline for registering to vote for this election is Thursday, April 13.

If you would like a postal vote, then you need to apply by Tuesday, April 18, and if you want someone else to vote on your behalf, the last day to arrange this, which is known as a proxy vote, is Tuesday, April 25.

Forthcoming council meetings

Although I won’t be writing my diary for the next six weeks it will be business as usual at Stroud District Council.

Three committee and one council meeting will take place over this period.

You can watch them online on the council’s website at stroud.gov.uk/webcasts

Housing Enforcers – final week

This is the final week of the latest series of the daytime BBC One series The Housing Enforcers which features members of council staff and our tenants.

It’s been a real insight into the work of our housing team and is well worth a watch.

If you missed it you’ll be able to watch the whole series on BBC iPlayer from Friday.
