PAYMENT of a £10,000 grant from Great Western Railway to Cam Parish Council for additional parking at Cam and Dursley railway station has been received and work could begin as soon as the end of the month.
The parish council was awarded funding for work to increase the number of spaces at the station car park last year and the funding has now been received.
County councillor Brian Tipper (Con, Cam Valley) told Wednesday’s meeting of Cam Parish Council that he had received confirmation from the county council, which is managing the project, that work could begin at the end of April or early May.
He said: “There had been a few issues with the transfer of the £10,000 funding but that has now been banked.
“The work for the six spaces is only expected to cost £5,476 of that so the rest could give three more spaces.
“The end of April or early May is the likely start of work.”
Councillors also agreed to write to other parish councils in the area to request financial support in possible larger projects at the station which is regularly used by commuters from across the Stroud district.
