CHANGES to bus timetables which have been altered to meet trains at Cam and Dursley railway station have been welcomed.

From September 3 Stagecoach will be operating under its revised timetables will include stops at the station ten minutes before trains arrive and leave ten minutes after their scheduled arrival.

Campaigners hope that the changes will encourage more commuters to leave their cars at home, subsequently reducing parking problems at the station.

Wendy Thomas, of Cam and Dursley Transportation Group, said: “Cam and Dursley Transportation Group has been lobbying for an improved bus service to and from Cam station since our group was founded three years ago.

“We welcome this new timetable from Stagecoach, which will allow Bristol commuters to leave their cars at home.

“This has the potential to reduce car usage and traffic in our area, as well as alleviating the pressure on parking at Cam station. We urge residents to use this new service.”

The new timetables have also been welcomed by Stroud district councillor Paul Denney.

He said: “This is great news that will hopefully help ease congestion and parking problems at the station, as well as benefitting the environment by cutting down on unnecessary car journeys.

“We have for many years been lobbying for the train and bus timetables to fit in with each other, so it’s great to see it finally happening.”

“We’re pleased too that the bus will wait for ten minutes at the station to allow for the train being late.”

“We would like to thank everyone who pushed for these changes, in particular the Cam and Dursley Transportation Group.”
