TALENTED Tockington teenager Alex Grocott will be living the dream after being chosen to represent Newport County this season.

Grocott, a former Tockington Manor School pupil, has been chosen for the Welsh club’s under-15 development squad.

The 14-year-old now studies at Monmouth School for Boys and has become one of three students from that establishment who have been snapped up by the development squad of League Two Newport.

Grocott was part of Monmouth School for Boys’ successful under 14s team who were undefeated last term.

He was spotted by County while playing football at the school and shone during summer trials with them.

The teenager, who supports Bristol City and Stoke City, said: “I play football every Sunday in the Avon Youth League and for Newport on Saturdays when I have the chance.

“The Newport County set-up and training is very good and I am looking forward to getting involved with the team.”

Alex attended training for Newport throughout the summer.

“I am extremely proud of Alex after negotiating the summer football trials at Newport County and for successfully making it through to the development academy teams,” said Master in Charge of Football at Monmouth School for Boys Mark Tamplin.
