ALVESTON has taken a trip down the village’s rich heritage this year with the launch of a history calendar.

Having spent the past two years encouraging the community to get out and about with a walking calendar, exploring some of the beautiful routes in and around Alveston, the village’s community forum have produced a history calendar for.

Each calendar features pictures of bygone Alveston together with a modern picture, stories bringing the picture alive and a small map showing the location of the pictures.

Peter Waller, from the Alveston Community Forum, said: “We are very proud of the finished calendar and I hope people enjoy it.

“This calendar too a little more work than the previous ones, researching and talking to residents.

“Having worked hard on this over recent months, we hope that those that buy it find it fun and interesting, and that, thought the many little stories being told each month, they learn something new about Alveston.

He added: “We’re grateful for our sponsors The Masons Arm at Rudgeway, The Alveston House Hotel, The Ship and Old Down Estate, and to Rosemary King and Ken Pearce for historical advice and use of images in helping us with the calendar.

A total of 400 calendars have been produced this year, with copies available for £5 from the Old Down Estate, Horders of Thornbury, Thornbury Museum and Alveston Post Office.
