CHIPPING Sodbury Music Society’s 70th anniversary season continued this month with a performance by medieval, folk and world music ensemble, Joglaresa.

The society’s members gathered for the concert at Chipping Sodbury Town Hall earlier this month, when the above picture was taken during the interval.

Founded in 1947, and originally called the Downleaze Music Club, the society was founded by a group of music enthusiasts who met in each other’s houses to encourage the appreciation of music by means of illustrated talks, lectures and gramophone recitals.

Although none of the original group are still around, today’s long serving members include vice president Jack Colley, secretary Rita Rees who together with her late husband David, chaired the society for many years, and June Kent who, with her late husband Tom, has also been a great support to the society.
