WITH many people stuck at home and unable to get into work today due to the snow and icy roads, nurses have spent the night at Gloucestershire hospitals to ensure they can continue caring for their patients.
Many hospital staff have also been walking for hours in the freezing temperatures to make sure they can get in to cover their shifts.
Shout out to my best friend and all the other nurses that stayed at @gloshospitals last night to make sure they were there this morning to care for patients. We are lucky to have people like this ❤️ #ThankYouNHS

Waking up to this view after spending the night @gloshospitals. At least I only have a short commute this morning! #oncallpharmacistlife #BeastFromTheEast pic.twitter.com/U9pomkSyqP

Some Gloucestershire Royal Hospital staff have been walking from their homes in Quedgeley to make early shifts.
Not safe to drive this morning when I can walk into work. Here we go! Should take about an hour. Some very deep drifts around! @gloshospitals pic.twitter.com/2Fff9nS97S

For others living further away, Gloucestershire and Worcestershire 4x4 Response have been providing lifts.
Taxi! @gw4x4r providing volunteer drivers with 4X4 vehicles to ensure doctors, nurses and health workers get through the snow to treat patients @gloshospitals. What lengths your local hospitals go to in providing care. Brilliant community spirit pic.twitter.com/pk5rsk7NVw

Their efforts have ensured that services at the county's main hospitals are running as close to normal.
Gloucestershire Royal and Cheltenham General hospitals are both operating at almost normal capacity.
Doctors are also urging people to check on their neighbours with several people being treated for acute hypothermia.
A few people coming in on acute take with #hypothermia this week @gloshospitals. Please check on elderly or frail relatives & neighbours to ensure they have adequate warmth & supplies! And please contact @Tell_StreetLink if you see someone sleeping rough in the cold. #staywarm ❄
