SEVENTEEN hours of arts helped mark the end of winter in Wotton-under-Edge on Saturday.

For the third year, Under the Edge Arts (UTEA) hosted its popular Spring into Summer event featuring 35 performances across two venues.

With about 500 people coming through the doors of the Chipping Hall and Chipping Hall Clubroom over the course of the day, £800 was raised to support the work of UTEA.

Kicked off at 7am with an hour of Indian Music, the event ran through to midnight when Round the Edge horizontal choir brought proceedings to a spectacular close.

Organiser Martin Clarke said that they had received “fabulous feedback” following the event.

“This is the third year we’ve held Spring into Summer and, like the last two years, I think it was a success.

“The aim is to give people a taste of the talent and opportunities we have for art in Wotton.

“We’ve had some fabulous feedback from people who visited through the course of the day.

“It was a pleasure to organise the event even though it is a lot of hard work and a long day – thankfully my voice just about held up until the end.”

UTEA hosts events throughout the year and is involved in a number of community events in Wotton-under-Edge.

At the end of May (May 26-28), it will hold a sculpture show with 20% commission on any sales given to the organisation.

Its members will also be taking in Wotton Walking Festival by hosting an Art Making Walk as part of a series of treks held over May 11,12 and 13.
