A MAJOR road that is deemed one of the most dangerous in the South West is closing today, and  will remain closed for the next six weeks.

The busy A4173, which is plagued by potholes, will be resurfaced starting form today, Tuesday 10 April, between Whaddon and the A46 junction at Pitchcombe.

Investment in the route has been made by the Department for Transport (DfT) as a major road that required investment towards improving safety and road conditions.

To improve the ongoing overall safety of this route, Gloucestershire Couonty Council will deliver a major improvement scheme to resurface 54,484m² of the road.

Crews will use 6,425 tonnes of long-wearing asphalt with high skid resistance and make improvements to signage and road lining as well as improve two existing mini-roundabouts in Brookthorpe.

There will also be some final drainage work completed during this period.

The road will be closed daily, excluding weekends, between 7:30am and 5:30pm.

For the safety of road users and our workforce, the road will be closed to through traffic between Whaddon and the A46 for the duration of the scheme.
