A MAN kept a Winterbourne pensioner in conversation at his door, whilst another burgled his home, it is believed.

On March 20, the 75-year-old householder answered the door to a man who claimed to be dealing with a burst water pipe, between 8pm and 8.15pm, and asked to come in to make checks.

While he was distracted, a second man is believed to have entered the house, unseen, and stolen a safe containing a gold coin, a small amount of cash, personal papers and bank and loyalty cards.

The man who called at the door was described as white, aged about 30, of ‘tubby’ build, clean shaven and wearing a grey woollen hat and a high-vis jacket.

Police are keen to identify the man pictured, who was in the area at the time.
