WINE connoisseurs sampled a selection of tipples at a charity wine tasting event in Chipping Sodbury.
Held in Hamptons Café, the evening was a fundraiser for the St Peter’s Hospice Room to Care Appeal.
The project, to build a new £6.5 million inpatient unit, began in October 2017 and is due to be finished by October 2018. The rebuild is costing £6.53million and the hospice is appealing to the people of South Gloucestershire and Bristol to help raise the shortfall, which currently stands at £400,000.
Fundraisers all over the area are now pushing to secure the necessary cash to finish the build.
With this in mind, Ann Murray from the Cooking 4 Cookery School in Chipping Sodbury organised the wine tasting, with businesses and residents all pulling together to make it a success.
Waitrose's Chipping Sodbury branch donated the wine and a member from the wine department gave an entertaining talk.
Appetisers were provided by Cooking 4 and Hamptons Café and Deli, as well as speciality breads from the Cottage Bakery.
Ticket sales, together with a raffle, raised £755 to help chip away at the outstanding £400,000.
Ann Murray said: “I was thrilled with the turnout and lots of those attending made a point of telling me how much they had enjoyed the evening.
"So not only did we help a very worthwhile local charity, but we had fun too.”
