SODBURY welcomes a new mayor.

Cllr James Ball takes over the role from outgoing mayor, Cllr Wendy Whittle.

Cllr Whittle had been in the post for a total of four years - a one year stint and another of three years.

She said: "I've really enjoyed representing Chipping Sodbury.

"It's a such a wonderful town, with lovely people.

"I especially enjoyed visiting schools and talking to the children.

"They often thought I was a pirate, I think it was the hat that did it!

"I wish James all the best and hope he enjoys the role as much as I did."

Cllr Ball, who has lived and worked in Chipping Sodbury all his life, runs his own business, James Ball Cars Ltd in Rounceval Street, which specialises in sports and prestige car sales.

He said: "I have thoroughly enjoyed being a Chipping Sodbury town councillor for the past three years, representing the good people of the town, and I am very much looking forward to being mayor for the next 12 months, as well as continuing to be a councillor.

"It's quite a big year for Chipping Sodbury, with many functions taking place, including the Chipping Sodbury Festival in June, the 800th anniversary of Chipping Sodbury in August, The Big Lunch in August and also the 100th Remembrance Anniversary in November.

"I look forward to taking part in these events and meeting as many people as possible."
