AN ETHICAL flower grower based in Latteridge is set to take part in this year's Chelsea flower show.

On May 19, Organic Blooms - a social enterprise working with adults with mental health conditions and learning difficulties - will be transporting their blooms to the capital for inclusion in one of the world's largest horticultural festivals.

It is contributing to the Flowers from the Farm exhibit, along with up to 100 other member growers.

Flowers from the Farm is a not for profit organisation run by volunteers to promote the use of seasonal, British grown flowers, which currently account for only about 15 per cent of cut flowers bought by consumers in the UK.

Wendy Paul, Organic Blooms head florist and co-director, is a member of the eight-strong Flowers from the Farm team who are designing and creating the installation.

She said: “The display features a wire horse and wood cart laden with crates of flowers going to market – it’s going to be stunning.

"It will be brimming with gorgeous seasonal flowers from the length and breadth of Britain, including several hundred grown by our team here at Organic Blooms.

“Organic Blooms has also organised one of the logistical hubs, where growers from across the West will deliver their stems ready for the onward journey to Chelsea.

"It’s a fantastic event to be part of.”

Flowers from the Farm was founded in 2011 by Gill Hodgson, who is leading on the design and creation of the Chelsea display, and now has over 500 members throughout the UK.

Most are sole traders, small or micro businesses, farmers, smallholders and gardeners who offer an alternative to supermarket flowers.

The Flowers from the Farm display can be found in the centre of the Great Pavilion.
