PETROL PRICES soared last month in what has been the biggest price rise for 18 years, according to research.
The price of fuel has reportedly increased every single day since April 22 and data from Confused.com shows that prices rose 1.1p in the past week alone.
Amanda Stretton, motoring editor of the financial services website gave details of the price hike.
"The cost of fuel has increased an eye-watering 128.7p per litre with the average medium-sized car now costing £73 to fill the tank, so drivers are really feeling the pinch.
"Motorists will need to budget even more to fill up their tanks, especially if they are planning any long-distance road trips this summer."
It is believed recent price hikes are due to the combination of a weaker pound following Brexit and higher crude oil prices, according to the RAC.
