Chipping Sodbury WI

WE ALL love a good story and the WI members and visitors were entertained by Elaine Miles to her own short stories, Elaine was originally booked in March but the Beast from the East put a stop the evening meeting taking place.

It was well worth the wait as the stories were a mixture of her own experiences, and fiction and the description of her sons going to University will be the same for many families in a few weeks’ time.

How many mothers leave their young adults in their new rooms drive away only to pull out the tissues and have a good cry?

Having the ability to see to read our own preferred literature is so important. This ability has been brought about by surgical intervention for many of us.

In 1952 the WI joined a campaign to educate the British public about corneal grafting – an eye surgery technique that had been possible since 1905 but was still not permissible in the UK.

The Corneal Grafting Act in 1952 laid the foundation for the 1961 Human Tissue Act and the wide acceptance of organ donation among the public and within the law.

Today, around one in three people are on the NHS Organ Donor Register.

The WI will continue to fight for public issues which continue to change the lives of all.

There is no official August meeting but the members meet for a social evening.

The next official meeting will be on September 6 with a schedule speaker talking about Windsor Castle.

This will be held at 7.30pm at Chipping Sodbury Town Hall.

If you wish to come along please do so and we will make sure that you will not be a stranger for long.
