A new pub is to open on Thornbury High Street this week.

The Butcher's Hook will open in the Vine House on Friday, August 3.

It will have a focus on local traditional produce with eight real ales, eight real ciders and six different cheeses available.

Landlord Peter Tiley, who also runs the Salutation Inn, Berkeley, CAMRA national pub of the year in 2014, wants the pub to have a strong community ethos.

“I’m a big believer that pub’s have a very important role to play as a hub for the local community

and in particular wet-led pubs, which provide a great platform for social interaction and enabling

people to form bonds and strengthen networks.

"Well-run community pubs can do huge amounts for combatting mental health and loneliness in society.

"We’re very excited to be opening a traditional wet-led pub, especially at a time when so many pubs are closing, that has a focus on quality local drinks and socialising rather than dining,” he said.

The new pub will open in the 17th century building known as the Vine House. It was a butcher’s shop for 250 years and since then an antiques shop, clock shop, electrical heating shop and most recently an Indian restaurant which closed in 2015.
