A THORNBURY chef has had their restaurant nominated for an award.

Romy Gill has been shortlisted in olive magazine’s 2018 Chef Awards.

She has been nominated by the public for the 'Small but mighty' category for her restaurant Romy’s Kitchen.

The inaugural awards are recognising the unheralded chefs who have been quietly excelling in the background.

olive asked the public to nominate the chefs across seven categories: Sustainable star, Best street-food chef, Veggie pioneer, Best pastry chef or baker, Community champion, Small but mighty and the Dark Horse Wine award, celebrating the most innovative chefs in the country.

The 31 shortlisted nominees have been announced and judging will now commence. The panel of expert judges includes olive magazine editor Laura Rowe, Bristol-based journalist and restaurant inspector Mark Taylor, award-winning food author and Guardian food columnist Felicity Cloake; and social media star Clerkenwell Boy.

Laura Rowe said: “We’re facing one of the biggest chef shortages we have seen in recent years so now it’s more important than ever to celebrate those making a positive impact on our food, the communities we live in, and the planet.”

The winners will be announced in September.
