A Thornbury resident has said he will be left 'stranded' by changes to the 77 bus service.

From Sunday, September 2 the 77 bus will no longer stop at Manor Walk.

The resident, who did not wish to be named, said: "They are cutting us off. I rely on the bus, a lot of us do.

"We are going to be stranded."

James O’Neill, commercial manager at Stagecoach West, explained the bus route changes had been agreed following discussions with South Gloucestershire Council and Thornbury Town Council.

“This will reduce journey time for most customers travelling to the town centre and beyond towards Parkway Station and Southmead Hospital,” he said. “We’re also adding UWE Frenchay Campus to our route.

“Parkland Way will no longer feature on Service 77 due to the ongoing problems reversing and turning our buses at the junction of Manor Walk. We have received a number of complaints regarding this manoeuvre due to the limited space available."

A spokeswoman for Thornbury Town Council said: "The Town Council recently met with Stagecoach and South Gloucestershire Council to look at the new routes but we understood they had already been submitted to the traffic commissioner at this point.

"We have been working hard with residents to get responses and improvements."

A roadshow is being held with Stagecoach and FirstBus at the St Mary Centre on Thursday, August 30 between 10-4pm to publicise the bus services available in Thornbury.

A spokesperson for South Gloucestershire Council added: “We encourage people to come along and discuss their options.”
