Thornbury Christmas Lights Association (TCLA) has announced the date the town's Christmas lights will be switched on.

The town will be illuminated at an event on Tuesday, November 20.

More than 80 light displays throughout the High Street and surrounding roads will be switched on at 7pm.

The evening will include a range of entertainment and stalls as well as a fun fair from 5.30pm.

Each year the switch on raises money for a particular charity and the TCLA are currently seeking nominations for this year's beneficiary.

The charity concerned should be one serving the community in Thornbury or surrounding villages and ideally there should be a project to which the money can be put.

You have until Monday, September 17 to nominate your charity as the beneficiary for 2018.

Nominations with supporting evidence should be sent to TCLA publicity officer c/o 12 Bluebell Close Thornbury BS351UN or contact the TCLA Facebook page.

The chosen beneficiary will have some duties and these include providing a personality to switch the lights on plus providing bucket collectors on the evening of the event.

YouTube sensation Jodie Mellor was tasked with switching on the lights at last year's event which raised money for Great Western Air Ambulance Charity.
