It may be a logistical nightmare for businesses and shoppers in the High Street, but the Mop Fair is an integral part of Chipping Sodbury’s history.
Twice a year, in September and March, the Mop comes to Sodbury. It brings with it enjoyment for all ages in the shape of rides, dodgems, food vendors and cuddly toy stalls.
The High Street closes on the Friday afternoon when the fair sets up and remains, at least partially, closed up until the Saturday night when the event ends.
Chairman of Sodbury Town Council, Phil Rumney, said he always enjoys the Mop when it comes to visit.
“It takes a lot of hard work to put the Mop on in Sodbury,” he said.
“But it grows every year, the rides and scale of the event has just got bigger and bigger every year.
“It’s just another example of what Sodbury is all about. It takes over but if it is well attended it is good for the community.”
