A community is pulling together to support a mother and her two children after the tragic death of their father in a car crash earlier this week.

Matt Krekelaar had been driving down Shire Way road in Yate at around 10.00am on Monday morning before he crashed his BMW into the front of a terrace of houses in Littledean.

Tributes poured in for the 28-year-old on the day of the crash, with flowers being laid at the scene within hours.

Stacey, his fiance and family released a statement a couple of days after the incident, confirming that it was Matt that had lost his life.

The statement read: "Matt was the kindest, most lovable, thoughtful, adoring, annoying at times, brother, father, fiance, nephew, grandson, great-grandson and son.

"He will leave a gap in our lives that no one else will ever deserve to fill.

"He leaves behind two little girls who would wind him up, play up, argue and drive him round-the-bend, but who really love him and will miss him terribly."

"Forever in our hearts. Sleep tight our sweet prince."

When speaking to the Gazette more recently, Stacey added: "Matt was an amazing daddy his girls miss him terribly and I will never get over his sudden death.

"He was irreplaceable and I won’t recover from this."

Now though, the Yate community has pulled together to try and support the family through GoFundMe and JustGiving pages.

Both Elle Wright and Danniella Curtis know the family well, and set up the charity pages following the event at the beginning of the week.

On the JustGiving page set up Elle, the target was set at £1000.

Within just two days the total was already at nearly double that figure as around 90 people contributed to the cause.

Some left with it messages of support for the family, with one saying: "I wish I could do more for Stacey and the girls. Matt was a great guy, and he will live on in his girls."

Another said: "Awful thing to happen to a family. I hope they are surrounded by love and support and grow in strength together."

On the other page, over £950 was raised within the same time frame.
