The beneficiary of this year's Thornbury Christmas lights switch-on has been announced.

Thornbury Welcomes, a group set up to make the town a more inclusive and welcome place, was chosen by the Thornbury Christmas Lights Association (TCLA) from nominations submitted by the public.

The group will now have to provide a personality to switch the lights and will have bucket collectors on the evening of the event.

A spokeswoman for TCLA said: "The TCLA Team are delighted to announce that Thornbury Welcomes will be this years Christmas Lights Switch-On Charity Beneficiary!

"Thornbury Welcomes are doing excellent work within our expanding community, ensuring everyone feels welcomed and included."

The switch-on will take place on Tuesday, November 20 with the funfair open from 5.30pm and the lights being turned on at 7pm

YouTube sensation Jodie Mellor was tasked with switching on the lights at last year's event which raised money for Great Western Air Ambulance Charity.
