An evening to celebrate the one year anniversary of volunteers running Chipping Sodbury Library has taken place at the High Street's Town Hall on Tuesday, October 16.

One year ago the old library, based near the clock tower in the main street, was facing closure.

However after the intervention and support of South Glos and Sodbury Town Councillor Rob Creer, a group of volunteers took over the running of the centre.

Now, on the first anniversary of the 'Friends of Chipping Sodbury Library', volunteers and Sodbury Town Council all attended a celebration evening at Chipping Sodbury Town Hall.

Maggie Allsopp, the Chair of the 'Friends of' group revealed that it was fantastic the group had succeeded in continuing to provide the facility.

"Since last September Chipping Sodbury Library has been run by a group of dedicated and highly efficient volunteers with the help of Sodbury Town Council," she said.

"During this year the library has gone from strength to strength and as well as keeping the centre open on a regular basis, there have been a number of great events organised throughout the year.

"These include upcoming events at Christmas and Halloween, as well as a widely supported Summer Reading Challenge.

"We hope to build on this success and organise more events for the community in the future. It has been a fantastic year and we have all enjoyed keeping this community library open."

Cllr Rob Creer also expressed his delight that the centre was still open for use.

"It's fantastic to see the Friends of Sodbury Library celebrating their 1 year anniversary of running Chipping Sodbury Library," he said.

"It is especially good after the long campaign and public meetings I facilitated to save this important community asset.

"I would like to say a big thank you to all the Friends, volunteers and Sodbury Town Council for the tremendous passion and dedication they've put into the project."
