A centre in Chipping Sodbury is hoping to continue the good work they have done raising money for charity.

The Tourist Information Centre, in the Clock Tower on the High Street, has been selling 'Christmas cards for a good cause' for the last five years.

This initiative involves 112 different card designs being placed on sale at the centre from now until the jolly season in December.

All proceeds go to selected charities however, with 28 different organisations being represented by four different card designs, these include Cancer Research UK, Age UK and Bloodwise.

Each year the amount of cards sold and money raised has been going up and Barry Townsend, one of the volunteers that keep the centre going, admitted it is always great to get involved with the scheme.

"We always like to do it," he said.

"It really helps bring people into the tourist centre.

"People come in and see the cards because there are absolutely fantastic designs.

"It is just brilliant that we are able to support such a fantastic cause because it helps people in the community.

Barry also admitted that it is brilliant to see the community looking to support charities through a centre in the town.

"Customers are now coming back every year, it is just getting bigger and bigger," he said.

"Chipping Sodbury residents are also really keen on the 'Then and Now 2019 calendar that we have on sale.

"I just think the fact people can get their cards whilst supporting a specific charity is a fantastic idea."

Barry is part of a team of volunteers that run the Tourist Info Centre, with around 20 other full time members. However they are now looking for more names to help out with the facility.

"We are funded by Dodington Parish Council, Sodbury Town Council and donations which we are really grateful for," he continued.

"But we are always looking for volunteers, it is good to have as many as possible so that this centre can stay open to the public."
