On Friday players from local football team Forest Green Rovers got behind an event being held at a Stroud supermarket to support an anti-racism educational charity.

Show Racism the Red Card was set up by Premier League footballers in 1996 and the FGR players were invited to take part by staff at Tesco's superstore as part of the No Room for Racism campaign day.

As part of the national event the store's Usdaw, the Shop workers Union, team invited footballers Nathan McGinley and Tahvon Campbell to come buy and meet staff and customers.

The aim was to raise awareness of this important issue and to highlight that many of our retail workers suffer this abuse regularly.

“It is great to be able to join in with the staff at Tesco in Stroud to help raise awareness for an important cause,” said Forest Green Rovers striker Tahvon Campbell.

“They did a fantastic job and as a community club, it is important for us to get out and support those doing great work in the local area.

“If only a couple of people have been educated on the issue of racism from the event, then it has been a success.”

As part of the event, which was organised by the Usdaw rep team at Tesco Stroud, wore red to work.

Money donated by staff and customers, £122, will be used by the charity to educate children in the school environment, tackling the subject at an early age.
