An ambulance driver is in a critical condition in hospital following a crash in Yate.

The incident happened just before 8pm on Thursday, November 1 on Wickwar Road.

It involved an ambulance responding to an emergency call and a silver Skoda Fabia.

Both vehicles ended up in a ditch.

The ambulance driver was taken to hospital with critical injuries while his colleague and the other driver sustained injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

The road was closed at its junctions with Frith Lane and Amberley Way until about 2.30am to allow specialist officers to examine the scene and the vehicles to be recovered.

Investigating officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or who saw either vehicle in the moments before the collision.
