Despite scorching summer temperatures, Yate Shopping Centre is celebrating after winning a a 'Gold' grade in the South West in Bloom awards.

The centre won the award for the second consecutive year after winning in the Business, Tourism and Leisure category one year ago.

Gold means that the centre joined the 'Sodbury' and 'Dodington' in Bloom teams in achieving the highest band within the Yate and Chipping Sodbury area.

Andrew Lowrey, the Yate Shopping Centre Manager expressed his delight that the area had been recognised.

“This is testament to the hard work and efforts of all the staff," he said.

"It is pleasing that the judge recognises the standards we strive to reach at the Centre with strong competition across the whole South West.

"It is good to see the efforts of one of our long-standing traders, Merediths, recognised for its quality of work and contribution.

"I’d also like to thank Paul Hulbert for collecting the Award on my behalf."

Judge Denise James, in her Award citation said: "Yate Town Council should be extremely proud of its Shopping Centre.

"It provides one of the most successful and vibrant shopping experiences outside Bath and Bristol."

"The management team can be proud of the high standards they set, congratulations to everyone in achieving your GOLD award."
