A DURSLEY music shop is celebrating 20 years of helping people to enjoy playing music.

Intersound Guitars on Parsonage Street has managed to continue to thrive in a niche market and during difficult times which has seen countless independent music shops close across the UK.

The town centre store stocks everything from starter guitars to hand made gems, and also provides an on-premises service and repair facility.

Set up in 1998 by Steve and Judith Smith, the Intersound team has since expanded to include co-director Denver Thirlwood, plus electronics whizz Norm Leete and technical helper Jamie Neave.

To mark the occasion of the shop’s 20th anniversary, they are organising a special guitar show, which is set to take place at the Gables Hotel in Falfield on November 15, from 5.30pm to 10pm.

The event will feature supplier trade stands, with two rooms full of guitars - one acoustic and one electric.

There will be demonstrations from top guitarists. Jamie Moses, who has played with Queen and Tom Jones will be there. Plus Jim Cregan (Rod Stewart and Steve Harley) and Elliott Randall (Steely Dan and Peter Frampton).

Visitors will also have the chance to win a guitar in a free prize draw.

Steve says he puts the shop’s success down to the hand-selected range of stock, plus the staff’s personal touch, and the provision of a free six month service on all new guitars.

“Recently, we picked up a neck fault in one, which only emerged through playing.

"We flagged it up to the suppliers, who provided a brand new replacement.

"Without a service this would’ve gone unnoticed.”
