Heavy traffic in Slimbridge on Saturday as visitors flocked to see the ghostly soldiers. Picture by Karen Clarke
SLIMBRIDGE has been overwhelmed by people visiting the stunning display of ghostly soldiers there.
Police said the village had been gridlocked with heavy traffic, and roads were expected to be just as busy tomorrow.
On Twitter KazzyC63 tweeted yesterday (Saturday): "Don’t even attempt to drive to see the churchyard display. The area around the church is gridlocked. Need police presence here to sort the traffic. People can not exit their drives, cannot go forwards or backwards."
The soldiers, made from chicken wire by sculptor Jackie Lantelli, look like ghosts and stand at the foot of the graves of the fallen.
They have been attracting enormous praise from awe-struck visitors.
The sculptures are on display at St John the Evangelist Church in Slimbridge until Monday evening.

Bridgette wanted to see the soldier sculptures at Slimbridge church. Traffic jams and at least 200 people at the moment. It will be under siege tomorrow. #RemembranceDay2018 pic.twitter.com/XpYqKK9ZxG

Me and my son went to pay our respects in Slimbridge. These almost ethereal wire soldiers were a perfect tribute to the fallen. We will remember them. #ArmisticeDay100 #RememberanceDay2018 #LestWeForget pic.twitter.com/nwmn4vzuUI
