A rampant second half display from Thornbury saw them score three goals in six minutes to ensure an important three points against table-topping Cairns Road Corinthians.

It also proved to be a day for marking landmarks in style as Sam Nichols opened the scoring on his 100th appearance for the club and, in completing his hat-trick, 35-year old Jimmy Cooke (right) notched his 150th goal for the club.

Nichols’ goal was a powerful header from a James Hancox corner which saw Thornbury lead inside 2 minutes.

The Corinthians grew into the game however and had a deserved equaliser on 35 minutes, again from a corner, the ball bundled home at the far post.

At half-time it was anyone’s game but Cairns Road were absolutely blown away by what followed in the next 6 minutes. Jimmy Cooke scored a hat-trick whilst Richard Ocone and Aidan Maddox both scored as the Baptists routed their opponents in the second half.

It could have been more had John Cordle managed to the back of the net, but he hit the post twice and had a goal disallowed.

Cooke's goals means he becomes only the second man to reach 150 for the club after Chris Beddoes, the manager.

Thornbury face a trip to VCF Santos at Filton on Saturday.
