A concert is being held in Thornbury to commemorate both the end of the First World War and the beginning of women’s suffrage.

‘At the going down of the sun…’, a concert of music by Elgar, will be held at Castle School on Saturday, December 1.

The soloists for the concert will be Isabelle Peters, who will join the choral society’s performance of Elgar’s Spirit of England, and Olivia Gomez who will sing The Music Makers.

Both performers have connections with Thornbury.

Isabelle's great aunt and uncle live in the town, and both will be visiting her in the Netherlands in January to hear her perform with the Dutch National Opera.

Olivia has sung with the choral society before in 2014 as a soloist in Handel’s Messiah and has also sung at Beech House as part of concerts there by Live Music Now.

The concert will be conducted by Thornbury Choral Society’s musical director, Steven Kings, with the orchestral accompaniment provided by Thornbury Camerata who will also perform Polonia.

Advance tickets – which are a pound cheaper than on the night - can be purchased from any member of the choir, from Tessa Sullivan 01454 417865 (tess@keithsullivan.co.uk), or just before the concert from Thornbury Town Hall.
