One of Thornbury’s biggest events of the year, the switching on of the Christmas lights, will take place tomorrow.

Thornbury Christmas Lights Association (TCLA) have been preparing over the last few months, with more than 90 Christmas displays being made.

Briony Williams, a semi-finalist in this year’s The Great British Bake Off, has been tasked with switching on the lights.

There is a chance to win a honey and ginger cake made by Briony if you purchase a raffle ticket on the night.

All the money raised will go to Thornbury Welcomes, a group set up to make the town a more inclusive and welcome place.

The big moment will take place at 7pm on Tuesday, November 20 outside NatWest Bank.

A spokeswoman for TCLA said: “We are very excited for you all to see what we have been working on.

“We look forward to seeing you there.”

A funfair and community market with craft stalls and refreshments will be open from 5.30pm.

There will also be live entertainment from the likes of Thornbury Community Gospel Choir.

Friends of Castle, a group set up to help the school in the wake of a BBC doucmentary exposing funding issues, will have a stall to recruit for a PTA and start raising funds.

Road closures will be in force on the High Street from 9.30am-11pm and Castle Street and Castle Court from 3pm-9pm.
