A popular cafe in Yate has been praised after a large voluntary donation following a break-in.

Working World, an organisation based in Evesham that works with children who have learning difficulties, was broken in to around three weeks ago.

The Vintage Birdcage Cakery and Cafe at Stanshawes Court then donated dozens of cakes and traybakes to help those affected.

The training unit was completely trashed and vandalised with derogatory comments so a lady called Julie Reed decided she would purchase some treats.

She posted on Facebook that she contacted the Birdcage about the order but was not allowed to pay for them as the cafe's owner Nicole Jones refused payment.

Nicole revealed that helping those in times of need is a big part of what her business tries to do as often as they can.

"We donated a small selection of treats because we were affected by the story," Nicole said.

"Helping the community is a big part of what we do here and we were more than happy to help with it."
